A celebration of Colin Thomas' life

It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that Colin has now passed away.

To celebrate Colin’s life the family would like you to join them in remembering Colin and saying farewell.  At his request Colin asked for a dress code of colour and less black.

Colin's funeral service will be held at Weeley Crematorium on Friday 28th February 2025 at 2pm

Immediate family flowers only. Therefore we ask that in lieu of flowers if you would, to consider donating towards St Helena’s Hospice Colchester, who have supported and cared for Colin and his family through his short illness.

Thoughts

My recollections of Colin are mainly from when we were children. I remember his mum (my Aunt Fran) taking me to visit him in the hospital at Edgware after he had had an operation on his spine. After he came home, he must have still had to spend some time with his body in plaster. This obviously made it difficult for him to visit the barber. One of the guys my dad (Bert) worked with, had been a barber and still had all his stuff, so dad arranged for him and Colin to come to our house to have his hair cut. I also remember a couple of occasions when Colin, Peter, myself, and our dog, Sue, took the bus down to Woolwich for a trip on the free ferry when the old steam-operated paddleboats were still in use. Many years later I went to his retirement do, where he was warmly greeted by his work colleagues. They were a friendly bunch, and I had a long conversation with some of them. He was obviously pretty popular. But my main recollection is that despite his times in hospital, he always managed to have a smile on his face, and that his how I will remember him.
